Erin Whalen-Whelton

Program Leader (Ages 11-12)

Erin is the leader of our Theatre Program (Ages 11-12), where they work with participants to learn the basics of theatre as they create a play from scratch. Erin works with participants to learn storytelling, performance, design, and direction. 

Bio

Erin (“are-in”) is a passionate proponent for the arts and education with a diverse background in theatre, early childhood development, and community programming. They discovered the transformative power of storytelling and performance as a child and pursed their professional journey with a diploma in Theatre Performance & Creation from Red Deer College (Polytechnic) as their foundation. They have honed their craft both on and off the stage and hold a deep love for nurturing young talent. 

Erin has been an improviser at Bull Skit Comedy since 2019 and their involvement includes genre-parody improv shows, and crafting engaging and hilarious content for young audiences through Calf Skit shows for children. Additionally, Erin's commitment to inclusivity and representation shines through in their work producing Gays of Our Lives, a LGBTQIA2S+ show by-and-for Queer folk, where they bring heart and humour to stories that celebrate diversity and acceptance. 

Erin is a certified and experienced early childhood educator and takes pride combining their passion for theatre with their commitment to fostering creativity and growth in children. Erin’s approach prioritizes meeting children where they’re at and supporting their expression and goals. They have had the opportunity to share their expertise in teaching theatre foundations, circus arts, and musical theatre as a program lead for The City of Red Deer since 2022.

Erin became a program lead at Tree House Youth Theatre in 2024 and devised four original plays with groups ages 9-10 and 11-12.

Most recently, Erin performed in In Loving Memory at The 2024 Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. 

Through their work, Erin strives to create inclusive and supportive environments where every child feels empowered to explore their creativity and shine brightly. With a belief in the magic of theatre to inspire and connect, they continue to be a dedicated advocate for the arts, sharing their passion with the next generation of performers and storytellers. Erin is overjoyed to return for their second season with Tree House Youth Theatre!
